Claiming Neptune Claiming Neptune Austin, Texas Thu, 26 May 2022 18:31:48 +0000 <![CDATA[First wave of new recordings - almost done!!]]> Hey ya'll!! A little update here from the Neptune lair!

Since early 2018, we've been hard at work recording and perfecting the first five songs that we will be putting out there in the coming months of 2018. We're super excited to share them all with you as our new stuff represents an awesome evolution (we feel) our style has underwent in the last couple years. We're still Claiming Neptune, but our smooth and groovy sensibility has been amplified by the addition of Jean on drums back in early well as the continued individual improvement and gelling of the rest our 5-piece unit. As you might imagine, it's hasn't always bubblegum and rainbows as far as keeping a band moving forward and moving together. There have been ebbs and flows...good times and challenging times, but we've all been very fortunate to have avoided a lot of the pitfalls that can lead to bands not making! Over our 3-plus years together, we've had lots of job changes and life changes....heck, Lisa is 3 1/2 months preggers right now (with her bf Aaron...our #1 fan!).

We're extremely grateful to be in the position we're now in. We hope you love where we're going as much as we do!! Hopefully we'll see you soon at a show!

Rock on!

<![CDATA[New drummer, new shows! SXSW and Texas A&M, here we come!]]>
Around the end of January, we welcomed Jean Loustaunau to the group as our new drummer. Jean recently moved to Austin from Norwalk, Connecticut...near NYC, where he studied drums at The Collective School of Music, played in bands, and worked as a producer, engineer and studio drummer. We're all pumped to have Jean on the team and look forward to introducing him to all you Neptuners really soon!

In fact, Friday, March 10, 4:30 PM, at the Lit Lounge on 6th Street in downtown Austin will be the place! We're playing a two-hour set on the second day of the SXSW Festival...and the best thing: YOU DON'T NEED A BADGE TO GET INTO OUR SHOW!! So, come all ye Neptuners and bring your space cadet-friendly friends and help us represent Austin among the bands of the world coming to play our stages!!

To conclude this blog entry, we'd like to publicly thank our former drummer Josh for all his hard work and dedication over the last two-plus years...we wish him the best in all his future endeavors musical and otherwise! You'll always be part of the Claiming Neptune family, dude!

<![CDATA[Sorry we haven't updated our blog...the rocket's been burning!]]>

Yo. So we aren't the most conscientious blog tenders in the world. But in our defense, it's kind of hard to sum up a single voice that represents all five us...we make a decent chorus of sounds, but we are a group of five individuals that represent three different decades-of-birth, three ethnicities, and two, different strokes and all that. There will be a split among us in the presidential vote...and, no, we don't give a shit to find out what it is. We started to have a political conversation one practice (there's recorded evidence of it kicking around somewhere), but then quickly ended it because it was a waste of time. A colossal waste of time.

But we love it when we get to hang out together and make music...and we've been doing a lot of that over the last six months and have amassed a new album's worth of material and counting.

We've been playing the new stuff out a lot, and one thing we'd like to share with you--our fans--is a recording from our most recent live show at Texas Indie Fest at the world-famous Executive Surf Club in Corpus Christi, TX...the gulf coast!

You'll want to fast-forward to about the 8:30 mark!!!!!!!

That's where the music starts. You should be able to stream it from the dropbox site. It's about 3/4 of a gigabyte in size...but feel free to download and share the link!! It includes a bunch of our new stuff!!

We've got two gigs scheduled over the next month or so...11/19 for a 3-hour headlining set at the Lit Lounge on Sixth Street in Austin...and then we're playing on Sunday 12/4 between 1-6 PM at the Lost Creek Country Club for a benefit fundraiser for the Leukemia Awareness Charity Fund. ...still very much a public show though, so come on out if you like!!

We're also pleased to report we've been offered some free studio time on 11/15 at Stinson Studios here in Austin...we're going to do a 4-hour live session with our new friend Brandon Rodriguez, Austin's baddest-ass new recording engineer! Not sure what's going to come of it, but it's going to be fun, and we're certainly going to be streaming and videotaping to share with ya'll!! (We're trying to get better at that!)

That's our current speed and position. What's yours?

- Adam

<![CDATA[Our debut album "In Times of Change" will be out soon!]]> Hey Neptuners!

In June, we went in to record three more songs to complete a 5-song EP. Then, we were given the opportunity to go ahead and record a full 10-song album. Six weeks of work turned into 4/5 months of us getting together 2-3 times a week at Austin to Boston Recording Studio in Round Rock with producer/engineer Mark Donavan to workshop and record our songs. It was a great experience, and we learned a lot about ourselves as individual musicians and about the identity of our band. We've only been together just over a year in our finalized form, but within that short amount of time, the five of us have come together musically in that rare way that you wish you could bottle up and sell...

Well, actually...

Our album will be for sale on iTunes, streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and the rest of those places in digital Internetland. But if you prefer, there will also be a real CD with real artwork...and perhaps vinyl (let us know if you want vinyl).

We just had our first show in four months. The album will be out in a matter of weeks. Things are happening in Neptuneland, and we invite you to come along for the ride!!

In the meantime, you can check out a few songs that will be on the album here on our website or on our soundcloud at

Peace & LOVE ya'll!

<![CDATA[Debut Album]]> That's right Neptuners! You read that correctly!!

We are so excited to be recording our very first album together as a group! It's been an extensive process, but fun nonetheless! Its amazing to see how we can transform a song (that in my opinion, is already pretty badass) into something that's so much more than what we anticipated it to sound like. Mark, the producer we're working with, really is a genius with it all. He willingly (that's right, he does NOT have to) gives us advice or tips on what we can change up in the song, all while maintaining the integrity of the original piece. And so far we are absolutely loving the outcome! Mind you, we are still fairly new at all of this so we're still trying to find our sound and he's been SO patient with us. Mark if you're reading this; it's been a pleasure working with ya, you ROCK, man!

Okay let me wrap this up before I lose you Neptuners out there. We've been working so hard to give you guys something that you'll enjoy listening to, and ultimately something that we as a team can be genuinely proud of. We're not trying to fit in...and we're not intentionally trying to stand out either. All we're trying to do is make some snazzy tunes and keep it authentic!

Can't wait for you all to hear it!

<![CDATA[First blog, long night at the studio]]> Just wanted to see if this blog is working on our shiny new website. If it is, then you Neptuners are reading this. If not, then I'm talking to myself.

Either way, it was a really long night at the studio tonight. It's probably like our 8th or 9th session with Mark Donavan at Austin to Boston Recording Studio just north of Austin in Round Rock, and every time we go in, we seem to set the bar a little higher for ourselves and then it becomes obvious that we need more time to do or redo something with this grand new musical understanding that we just discovered.

Working our way through a groove...phrasing...feel and the pursuit of technical perfection in translating what's in your head into music through your instrument...or in Lisa's case, her voice. It doesn't always come easily. Sometimes, you have to beat it out of yourself by sheer force of will. Frustration is quick to come, but we have to work through it because that's what we're there to do.

The music is worth it. I'm excited about what we're laying down...and we're all excited about sharing it with ya'll soon!
